Update Oct 2010
Due to the hollow nature of most fibreglass stocks nowadays, we recommend the use of 10 mm Aluminium Rod when installing the cheekpiece. Here are 2 photos of what we are recommending. We have sourced some 10mm Aluminium Rod that will be supplied with the cheekpieces. It is supplied as one (1) length which will need to be cut into 2 lengths to suit your stock width.
FEEDBACK Received from Karl, 20th Feb 2011
Hi,
Very very happy with it. It was easy to fit. The stock was 'Hollow';
it had a light honeycomb filler inside and so the alloy tube was a very
good idea as it needed it, especially with the calibre the stock has to
contend with for recoil. I compared it to a mates, and it is nearly
twice as thick. This was noticeable when mounting as his would flex
when you properly rested your cheek on it. I found myself hovering on
his rest trying to not make it flex and change scope - eye alignment. I
have taken a scallop out of the front top area to accommodate the full
pull of the bolt. This was easily done with a fine tooth hacksaw blade
and fine tooth file. It took less than five minutes of blind mounting
and minor adjustments to get it positioned for proper eye line through
the scope. I tried some hand loads, which I had left over out to 600
yards. Initially with these I thought I had a bullet stability issue,
due to velocity, pressure and barrel twist rate or combination of all.
Well they aren't flying all over the target any more. Just shows it was
human error at the scope. It has gone a long way to minimising cant. I
have ordered an anti cant from defensive edge, so with all this I should
be able to confidently start pushing out toward 1000 yards.
I'm sure you get the impression I am happy.
I will send a photo soon.
Cheers Karl.
